OVP (Over Voltage Protection) is a safety feature in the phone's charging circuit that protects the motherboard and battery from excessive charging voltage.

Its Importance Includes:

  • Protects the battery from overvoltage, which can cause overheating, swelling, or permanent damage.
  • Protects charging ICs and PMIC from electrical damage due to unstable or high charger voltage.
  • Prevents motherboard damage by blocking unsafe voltage from reaching sensitive components.

If the OVP circuit is faulty, the phone may:

  • Not charge.
  • Display charging errors.

Important Notice Before OVP Bypass:

Before performing an OVP bypass, always diagnose the charging circuit thoroughly. Confirm that the OVP circuit itself is defective and ensure the charger, charging port, battery, charging IC, and related components are functioning correctly.

An OVP bypass should only be considered as a repair technique in specific fault conditions, since removing this protection can leave the device more vulnerable to damage from excessive input voltage.
